Knaresborough Civic Society

Studley Water Gardens – 16 February 2021 at 7.30 pm

January 26, 2021 by Ian Wright

In the past we have arranged monthly speakers meetings during the winter on subjects of interest to our members and to the public at the Dower House. Because of the current pandemic we are unable to do this so we are trying something different. This will be an illustrated talk by Mike Bevington who regularly delivers such talks for the National Trust.

Here is a link to the event on our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/events/468140370869373
And here is a summary of Mike’s talk:

A Walk Round the Studley Royal 18c Water Gardens

The talk includes a tour of the gardens, with information on the gardens and the reason for their creation. We will also learn about members of the Aislabie family who were responsible for the design and creation of the gardens, and why the gardens became a famous World Heritage Site of Outstanding Natural History & Beauty. Mike will also discuss the scandals surrounding the Aislabie family and subsequently the Vyners, who were extremely close friends of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

If you would like to join the meeting please email info@knaresborough-civic-society.org.uk and I will be delighted to send them the link to join the meeting. We normally ask members to pay £3 and non members £5 for such meetings. As this is a new venture and with the present difficulties we will be happy to receive any donations if people think the talk was worthwhile. Details of how to donate will be given when I send the link to the meeting.

As an organisation, like many others, the Civic Society is looking for new members and for people keen to contribute to the town by joining our committee. If anyone would like to know more about the Civic Society I would be happy to help, either via the e mail above or over the phone on 07969-506906.
