Speakers' Meetings - 2017/18
Our current season of meetings has now come to an end for the summer but will resume in the autumn of 2017. The price for the speaker evenings will be £3 for members and £5 for non-members. Details of our coming meetings are as follows. All the dates are shown so that you may put these in your diary now:
Tuesday 10th October 2017: Robert Addyman will be talking to us. Robert has some ancestors who were builders and engineers. His great great grandfather engaged a master builder, Peter Hobson, to build the Red House in Knaresborough, the Town Hall in Market Place, Starbeck Baths, the Turkish Baths in Harrogate and many buildings in Kensington and Chelsea. Hobson's son George, who was Robert's great great uncle, was a famous engineer who designed the bridge over the River Zambezi below Victoria Falls. So this should be an interesting evening.
Wednesday 22nd November 2017: please note this is not our usual 'second Tuesday of the month' meeting. Sue Wood from Harrogate Borough Council will be talking to us. Sue is responsible for Parks and Open Spaces and will be talking to us primarily about the green spaces in and around Knaresborough, most particularly Conyngham Hall, Knaresborough House and the Castle. Sue has already had good reviews after a similar talk to Harrogate Civic Society and we are looking forward to this evening.
Tuesday 13th February 2018: Speaker yet to be arranged.
Tuesday 13th March 2018: Speaker yet to be arranged.
All meetings will take place at The Dower House Hotel, Bond End, Knaresborough, beginning at 7.30 pm
