Knaresborough Zoo

Knaresborough Zoo

Established in the grounds of Conyngham Hall in 1965 by Nick Nyoka and run by Edward Millborrow from 1969, it was a popular tourist attraction with over 150,000 visitors (inc 10,000 in school parties) in its heyday. Exotic animals included Simba – then the biggest lion in captivity – and Irma the elephant. The zoo closed in 1986 and was replaced by Henshaw’s Art & Craft Centre in 1999.
