The government has recently confirmed that MPs will vote on a controversial overhaul of England’s planning system this Autumn.
The Planning Bill – announced at the Queen’s Speech – aims to stop local opponents blocking development in designated “growth zones” and Ministers said the plan would make it easier to hit house-building targets.
We know that civic societies add value to the planning process and whilst we support the need for streamlining, we are extremely concerned that the proposals in the planning white paper will reduce the role of communities beyond anything we have seen before.
It’s why we think now more than ever, is the right time for residents to consider joining Knaresborough Civic Society and help ensure there still are opportunities for local input into development schemes which evolve as they make their way through the planning process.
If these proposals go ahead, the role of civic societies will change forever.
